At our District Committee meeting tonight we had occassion to discuss
It was noted that units have a greater tendency to fail when leaders do
not receive District or Council sponsored training.
We agreed that "fast start" is appropriate for new units or new
leadership within existing units. We understand that some training
initially is necessary, but "fast start" cannot qualify as sufficient to
successfully maintain a pack.We could not come to any consensus
regarding "basic leader training" - conducted on a level "less than
We know that District Basic Leader Training and Council Pow Wow are the
ideal forms of providing quality training for leaders.
I guess our real question is - Can a unit (pack) provide "basic leader
training" for its leaders that qualify these adults as "Trained"? We
generally agreed that such training seems to fall short of the mark
desired; and the units become marginal, at best.
Our council sponsors Boy Scout Adult Leader Training. We do not permit
these training sessions on a unit or district level, though we have had
multiple district participations in the past.
We have been promised "official policy" in this matter, but we are
curious as to whether these policies are set by National or Council.
