Scouts-L Mail Archive for October of 1998: Treasurer problems
Thu, 8 Oct 1998 22:29:15 -0400
Our troop committee needs the assistance of the collective wisdom of the
list on a thorny problem. We have had the same Committee Treasurer for the
last three years. The CC when he first came aboard was not interested in
financial statements. All he wanted at each committee meeting was a
statement regarding the balance in the check book. When my wife took over
as CC two years ago she asked him for a full financial statement so the
Committee could produce a budget. He paid no attention to her requests.
Finally after two years he has promised to bring all the records to the next
Committee Meeting and turn them over so we can have them audited.
No one really thinks the man is pulling any fast stuff, but we are becoming
increasingly uncomfortable about the condition of the troop finances. We
have promised him that after the results are audited, the Committee will
provide him with sample report forms to use to provide them with a full
disclosure at every meeting. Of course, if the auditor finds irregularities
this will change, but we will still need copies so a new Treasurer can do it
right this time.
What we need are samples of what other Troops are using for their
statements. If any of you can send me samples of the types of forms you are
using, my wife, I and the whole Committee would be truly appreciative.
Please e-mail me privately on this, so we do not tie up the list's 50
message maximum on this subject. My ISP does permit large attachments, up
to 1mb, so please feel free to just attach.
