Sea Base has a web site at http://www.bsaseabase.org, and there's a mailing
list you can get on if you send a message with "subscribe" in the subject
line to firstname.lastname@example.org. On the web site, there is a link to "info on
Georges" with this message:
"Florida Sea Base weathered Hurricane Georges with minimal problems. We
incurred no structural damage and suffered a few downed trees.
Island Base took a hard hit but it is hoped it will be operational by
We appreciate your thoughts of us and don't worry, we will be ready for all
our crews as scheduled.
It is our friends in the lower Keys that have the real damages from the
storm and they are already removing debris and rebuilding and cleaning up"
We've exchanged some messages with the staff at Sea Base. No one suffered
significant damage to their homes. Camp Sawyer, the "island base" is pretty
beat up, and as of a few days ago, there was no word about damage on the
island used for the "out island adventure." They expected power to be out
in the lower keys for 2-3 weeks after the hurricane.
