Okay, to be technical, you do not salute either the person or the "uniform"
- you salute the rank. As was drummed in to us during my army service, it
is immaterial what your opinion is of the person being saluted, you are
saluting them because they hold the Queen's commission. The uniform, or
badges of rank worn thereon, are merely an outward sign of this honour.
