I find it kind of surprising that you need 90 minutes to do a SMC. Do you have a
small troop that you have that luxury of time. I had about 40 +/- kids, and was able
to keep abreast of eash one's training through informal, "spot" SMC's. When the kid
came to me for the "formal" SMC, I knew what he was capable of. The ethics questions
and "how goes it" were taken care of informally, on campouts, or on the trail. Yeah,
15-20 minutes seemed about right. I always had a rope so they could demonstrate one
or two of the knots. :>) I suppose, when all was said and done, about two hours of
a little more was spent on each kid, for each rank. Different methonds, same result.
