Scouts-L Mail Archive for October of 1998: Good Old National Geographic
Good Old National Geographic

Just in case no one has mentioned this yet, I just thumbed through my October
issue of National Geographic and found a small but nice nod to Boy Scouts at
page 31. The article is on population and migration and the photo depicts
several Asian-American scouts, at least three of which appear to be Den Chiefs
from troop 511 - perhaps San Gabriel Valley Council? (I'm awaiting new
eyeglasses). The caption states: "Other Asian immigrants in California,
determined to instill traditional values like loyalty in their children, get a
hand from the Boy Scouts." By the way they seem to be well-uniformed
including scout pants and belts, no neckerchiefs though.
It's great to see this kind of publicity: A very matter-of-fact reference to
scouting as a force for good, as if it goes without saying.
