Should This Scout Go to Philmont?
Thu, 1 Oct 1998 13:40:00 -0500
My troop will be going to Philmont for the first time in July 2000.
There is one young man in my troop thinking of signing up
for the trek. He has one leg that is slightly twisted as a result
of cerebral palsy. He is also pretty small. This weekend we
are going on a 10-mile backpacking trip. Most of the trail is
on top of ridges running through a state forest. There are 4
spots where the trail descends 300 feet to creeks below and
returns to the ridge on the other side. This Scout and his dad
are going with us to help them decide if he should sign up for
For those who have been there, what would you advise?
Do you have any similar cases that you can tell me about,
good or bad?
