I know that this is going to draw flames but... maybe, just maybe a young
man who can not achieve the 50 %ile for physical fitness is not qualified
to be an Eagle Scout. I, myself, as an Advancment Chair of a troop of 40
Scouts am not unpleased to see scouting getting back to "out-of-doors"
and consentrating on BOTH mind and body......
Up until these recent changes a Scout could achieve Eagle with little
our-of-door activities.. Sports rather than Swimming... (take a look
at the swimming alternatives...Hiking...Cycling....... swimming is the
easy one).... 3 citizentships... safety.......
heck couple these with Scholarship... Collecting.... Stamp Collecting...
Art... and a few others and a Scout almost would not have to leave
home to earn the 21 required badges....
just my opinion
advancment chair and BoR cooridinatior
troop 47 Foster, City, CA
all this and OA too....
