Our Troop has attended the MB Jamboree at the USNA many times over the years,
and will so again this year. However, since Annapolis is only 1-1/2 hours away
our Scouts don't miss any school.
My personal opinion is that the trip's educational value is so high that your
boy's schools should allow them to attend without marking it against them. If
necessary, send a letter to the school explaining what it is they will be
doing. After all, they are visiting a college - a premiere engineering school
at that. They will be given a tour of the campus and will be learning a
subject that generally can't be taught locally (wait to you see the flight
technology labs). You can also tell them that 10% of the students at the
Academy are Eagle Scouts, and that those earning the Eagle rank are held in the
same esteem as those with 4.0 GPA's.
Is it worthwhile, yes - definately! And look me up when you get there.
