The WORKING WITH SCOUTS WITH DISABILITIES (WWSWD) Web page.
In late July 1998, at a Conference at the Philmont Training Center, we
were told by a National BSA representative, that it would take six years
to establish a Website on Scouts with disabilities.
Two months later we are pleased to announce such a page exists!
Please bookmark it. Please, tell fellow Scouters and Scouts about it.
WWSWD is a work in progress, and will continue to be. It is designed as
a reference point. Those of you with Scouting Webpages we hope that you
will establish a link for those you serve.
As I have said, it is a work in progress. We intend on continuing its
construction. We are looking to you for additional building materials,
and recommendations. It will be as strong as you make it.
Let us know what you need and want, what would be helpful. Make this an
Discussions, on Scouts-L, in recent months have included subjects such
as changes in Merit Badge requirements, and in the path to Eagle. Some
of these, it is perceived, will adversely effect the disabled. We see
no malice in this, but we see these as unintended consequences which
need rectifying. Scouting has been open to persons with disabilities,
and we want it to become even more inclusive. WWSWD can become the
amplifier of your concerns, besides being a resource.
