You mean you don't get anything out of your 'volunteer' work? Sometimes
I am overwhelmed with all I get -- all the smiles, the confidence gains I
see in the boys who FINALLY overcome their hurdles and know they can
actually go it alone, and then the boys who finally follow my lead and
passing on the skills they've learned to the next wave of new boys...
Jere Ratcliff, our Chief Scout Executive, may be getting the fat salary
recently reported here but I think I'm honestly getting the better deal.
Seriously though... In our relatively well-to-do neighborhood I have
known parents to pool together to hire sports coaches for 'volunteer'
soccer/baseball leagues. I would not be too surprised if the same has
been done to secure a Scoutmaster/Cubmaster, although I have not
heard of it. I certainly don't know of anything of the sort officially.
National registration is only about $7-8/year, which basically covers
insurance. There is NO local registration charge (at least not here).
But then there's the cost of uniforms, books, badges, equipment...
