IN reply to George's reply to the "experts" . . .
The problem in this (as other) volunteer run organizations,
is that many self proclaimed experts will tell you what is a
"fact" based on the level of thier current "knowledge".
Or - this is the way it is, because that is HOW I do, it . .
Therefore, it must be truth.
And others will provide a quote from a local council policy
document - which does not comply with current NATIONAL regs.
The most unfortunate part of this all, is that you can call
your council for "current" policy, and call national and get
2 different asnwers! (on the same question) And as happened
with my son, and Eagle application can then be approved at
your local council, and denied by National!
And as far as differnt dates for Eagles - I saw a document
at Scout Leader training this weekend - that listed October 1,
1998 as the effective "date" of the changes for ALL SCOUTS who
have not earned LIFE by Oct 1, 1998! So for any scouts
who do not have their Life BOR before Oct 1, 1998, the new
requirements are already effectively in effect - IE that
all current scouts at Star and below, will have to earn
Physical Fitness - unless they earn Life in the next Week!
(and also swimming, OR hikeling OR cycling )
Now that I am a Unit Comiss - I am more confused than ever
Not only do I question WHO is on first, but should he even be there ?
Maybe we should ask, Where is first and should we even go there . . .
