We had a fantastic turn out for Join Scouting Night this year.
First, our pack maintains a close relationship with the school principle.
He's supports scouting very much, so thats not too tough.
Second, we had a couple of our adult leaders go from classroom to classroom
talking about Scouting and passing out flyers. We used the flyers that the
district provided, but we also made our own. On our flyers, we typed out
"reasons to join scouting" and then listed the statistics that we got off
the internet. IE: 60% of Air Force Academy graduates were boy scouts etc.
Third we had our Sign up night. What a success. We had 43 new boys sign
up. Doubling our Pack size. However, it was a little unorganized, since
we didn't have enough adult volunteers to help out with the registrations
and money. But we did manage.
I heard a recommendation at our Rountable last month. They had a table set
up at the kids school open house. Then signed up most of their scouts that
night. Then had everyone come to their Join Scouting night for an
introduction. I thought this was a great idea, as it freed up much of the
time you need for Scouting Night.
Hope this helps. We are a pretty small town. Only 3500 residents. We're
thrilled to have a Pack of 85 boys.
