I just got back from an overnight Woodbadge staff development, and among
our staff are Donna and Larry Cunningham, who developed and wrote most of
the literature and standards for the new Venturing Program. They had one
of only seven copies that exist (so far) of the new book for venturing
and the Ranger award, and I was able to give it a quick read..
Let me tell ya folks...this is gonna be some fine program, and the Ranger
Award is every bit as difficult, if not more so, to attain than the
Eagle. I have an eagle, so I think I am a pretty fair judge of how
difficult it can be to get. This program will be open to females, the
options are all female groups, all male groups, or my favorite...the
co-ed group. The Ranger Award is the first step towards the gold and
silver awards....and if someboday can earn all three of those, they (she
included) has out-scouted the rest of the BSA.
I urge ALL to get these books when available..projected around or shortly
after the first of the year....and get this program going. for those of
you who wish to include the young ladies in our fine program of
Scouting.....this is the way to do it. It will be fun, rewarding, and a
great boon to the girls........Please familiarize (sp?) yourself with
this program...and make it happen.
More excited than I've been in years,
