Welcomr tot he ranks of CM's!
I have been a CM for 2 1/2 years, and recently became a Roundtable
Commissioner. I also just received Commissioner Basic Training last week, and
one of the issues presented was how to get adult volunteers in Packs.
There are 4 ways to do this..... (Do NOT get up in front of the group and ask
publically. It will be assumed the ship is sinking, and you are looking for
more people to help bail..........few will step up.)
1. Be Positive
As stated, no one wants toboard a ship introuble. Empasize the positive
aspects in your own mind before trying to ask others to join up.
2. Make a list
For each position, try and list, in order, the best people to ask. Ask
each in order, and wait fdor an OK or a refusal. If refused, cross them off
the list and go to the next person, letting them know they are the Best One
For The Job. (True, since the theoretical best one refused.) If they accept,
you are set.
3. Contact them personaly
No phone requests. Meet with them with the Committee Chair or another
Den Leader. Talk to them face to face, but don't badger them or gang up on
them. Again, emphasize the positive aspects of scouting and leadership, and
they have been carefully considered as the "Best One For The Job."
4. Tell the whole truth
