WEBELOS AT CAMPOREE

Begging your pardon
Webelos scouts should attend camporee as invited guests of a BS Troop
If they compete in any camporee events they should compete as a den under
the leadreship of a troop guide and/or den chief (those scouts need work
The webelos den should have NO DIRECT OBLIGATIONS or interface with the
camporee outside of the host troop.
Now I have given my opinion as a commissioner with some time in service and
I find when webelos leaders act as Scoutmasters (no offense intended) the
cub scouts get the wrong idea of boy scouts, were the aims and methods
Webelos scouts , I believe, should interact with several troopsduring their
second year and they and their parents should be made to understand that
finding a good troop for their boys is like buying a pair of shoes. One
size does not fit all. And a good webelos leader who may be transitioning
to boy scout leadership should be prepared to offer his charges individual
Ask any scoutmaster how many boys who arrive as a den remain closely
associated during their boy scout tour. There are some but not many.
Bye the way, I am quite opinionated about some subjects like this because I
have had to deal with the fallout when things go wrong and I hope you take
this and use or not as you see fit.
We are not in the entertainment business(don't get me started) and we are
not a charitable trust.
OK enough of that.
The best gates are the ones the boys design and build. (Never do a Job a
BOY can do)
Thats the real secret of scouting. You guide, suggest, nudge, cajole, zig,
zag, smile, frown but NEVER DO A JOB A BOY CAN DO....is the motto of many
sucessful scout leaders. Leaders of the right sort, BP used to call them.
Best of luck to you and your den.
