As a cub scout leader, I tried very hard to convince parents to do the
achievements at home. Some achievements were much easier to do at den
meetings (physical fitness games that called for teams.) Some achievements
are impossible to do in meetings, family ones and religion. I tried my best
to work on electives, yet I checked boys for their advancement at home.
Some parents will work with their boys, some will not. My own sons didn't
get much accomplished this summer due to Mom starting graduate school. My
older son is one badge away from Arrow of Light, and my younger one has read
his entire Wolf book and tested himself on all of it. He could easily
finish his badge work within two months.
Scouting is like Love; the more you share, the more you have.
