Cub Scouts and Canoe Trip

I have a problem and it is not with just one unit. As of today 9/1/98 I =
know of 3 Cub Scout Packs who are planning some type of Canoe trip for =
the upcoming year!. Last night I attended a Pack Committee meeting =
along with my ADC. We new that the canoe trip was on the agenda, so my =
trusty sidekick ADC had made come copies of the Cub Scout Safety section =
from the Guide to Safe Scouting book.
After the talk about the canoe trip had ended we handed out the Safe =
Scouting Guide copies and I informed the group the Council and BSA =
National can not condone or permit Packs to go on Canoe trips. That =
went over real good! The CM then told me that it was not going to be =
sponsored by the pack and that it was going to be a parent/child or =
family canoe trip. And that he understood the BSA policy.
As I said we have more than one Pack that is planning this type of trip.
Has any one in the group come across this and if so how was it handled.
