Instead, have one of your boys earn the Orienteering Merit Badge instead.
One of the requirements is to set up a course.
When I was a Scoutmaster, I had a very large city park available (a few
hundred acres) with lots of trails. A local orienteering club has
several courses laid out in the park. The park provided free maps. In
addition, we had several courses of our own. Each time a worked his
Orienteering Merit Badge, the whole troop ran his course and we kept the
map for future use.
