Bravo Ed. Let's all make an effort to push down the running of the troops to
the boys. I will admit that there is a need to put together a booklet for new
parents and scouts that outlines how the troop and committee operates, but the
daily running of the troop should be left up to the PLC, with oversight from
the Scoutmaster. I have found that the boys can sometimes be harder on each
other that the adults would be in a situation. "Corporate Scouting" (see
Anthony Maiko's wonderful and thoughtful postings earlier on this subject)
with its adult written bylaws and policies has no place in a boy run troop.
You might want to go back two months to Scouting magazine and read about one
Scoutmaster who handles questions from his scouts by "Running the Twelve". If
it doesn't stand up to the Scout Law, it must not be right. Simple. Clear.
