Read some of the recent notes about the patches available for Junior
completing training. Here is my .02 based on my knowledge of the
and the insignia.
First off, there is no JLT patch. It is properly the JLTC (Junior
Leader Training Conf)
patch which is to be used only to people who have gone thru the
week-long (tho our council has run it as a 2 weekend course) course. It
is really not
meant to be given out to people who go thru the troop-run weekend Junior
workshop. As far as I know, there has never been any kind of patch for
the JL workshop, but there is (or was) a certificate.
As to the Trained strip, just like adults, Junior Leaders can also wear
it. However, as it was pointed it, they should only wear it with the
position they have been trained for. Some kids don't get that point.
In the JL Orientation Workshop, the various JLs are
trained for their specific position, so if they change jobs, they really
shouldn't carry over the trained strip. If they have gone thru JLTC, I
figure they've been trained for all. Another thing that is important to
realize is the trained strip goes with the position patch, its not worn
on its own. I've had kids who no longer held a position, but still wore
the trained strip! This is true for adults, you wear the trained strip
if you've been trained for your position. Myself I don't currently wear
the trained strip. While I have Woodbadge and 6-Session training when I
was a Boy Scout Leader, currently I am an Associate Advisor for a
Venture Crew and I haven't had specific training for that position, so
don't feel it proper to wear it.
