I guess because while in academic circles, the standing of the LDS as
a completely new religion that falls outside the limits of trinitarian
traditonal Chrisitanity is a valid view. The fundamentalist view of
catholics is considered akin to the KKK.
This does not mean and I did not mean to suggest any disrespect for
the LDS or that prejudice against them is OK. In fact, I think it is
entirerly valid for the LDS to seperate itself from trinitarian
Xianity which is where at least some of the academic thought is going.
But is often the case, a new view of the devine needs some time to
find itself. cf. the Acts of the Apostles.
Sometimes my academic view of the church (used to be a postulant for
priesthood) traps me. I forget that most people are smart enough not
to swim in the academic writings of comparative theology where I spend
probably too much time.
I apologize if I seemed to you to in any way be disrespectful of the
LDS. Not my intention. Most of the Scouters I know in the community
are really good and caring men.
