I have agreed to be the Program Director for Mosquitoree this year which
has "Frontier Rendezvous" as the theme. I would be interested in any
Frontier-oriented games and activities that have worked well for you in the
past for Cub Scouts. Any help would be appreciated!
I'm sure many of you got a chuckle out of the term "Mosquitoree."
Mosquitoree is our district's Cub Scout Camporee held every year in the
fall. This year's is October 23-25. The event got its name by its being
frequently postponed or converted to a day activity because of the
encephalytis threat which we get every year or so at this time. Last year's
ban on camping lasted several months and caused it to be a day activity.
Encephalytis is contracted by mosquitoes which are very prevalent at night
and especially at dusk. When the threat exists, there is a county-wide ban
on evening activities for the affected counties here in Florida.
We are hopeful that we will not have that situation this fall because of
the dry winter and spring we have had (I'm sure you heard of the fire
problems our neighbors to the north had earlier this year). So far the
summer is pretty wet, but we are still hopeful there will be no problems
