Last year, 97-98, Mobile Area Council sponsored two SMF courses. I am
not sure of the number of attendees, but we had 10 complete the first
course and about 13 complete the second. There were others who attended
Parts I and/or II. I think the fee was in the $10 to $15 range, which
included coffee and refreshments for Parts I & II and the food for the
Part I lunch. Food for Part III was up to the patrols.
This year, 98-99, there is only one Council sponsored SMF course on the
calendar. IMHO, there should be more opportunities than this. SMF may be
offered as part of University of Scouting to give a second opportunity.
I would really like SMF to be sponsored by each District. We used to do
this, but went to Council sponsored courses because of low participation
in the District courses.
