Since late April, about 30-40 messages to Scouts-L have
shown up as empty in my browser (Netscape Communicator
4.05). A number of other list members have also complained
about this problem. I do not know what the cure to this
problem is but this is what I have figured out so far:
1) These messages DO contain textual information. If you
view the page source, you will see it.
2) These messages always contain something like the
following in the header right before the text starts
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
3) These messages often contain the following line in the
header. I've never found this line in a message that
This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
Given the above, it is possible that the people who are
sending these blank messages are using an encoding system
in their e-mail program that other e-mail programs are
having difficulty interpreting. It's probably not
intentional but these people may want to try to correct
it so that others will be able to readily review their
thoughts and ideas.
I will e-mail a copy of this message directly to those
whose messages I have monitored with this problem. If
through this exchange the problem is identified, I will
share it with everyone so two-way comunication can be
improved on Scouts-L.
