Chalk up another vote for #2. You did a wonderful job with this kid.
I would add a recommendation, tho. When you're working so closely
with this boy, see to it that there's another adult around, perhaps
even one of his parents, to take over for you. My reason for
suggesting this is that YOU need some time away from the stress
of handling this boy, and another adult in camp will let you take a
30 minute hike or a hot shower or whatever will allow you to get
away from the stress. My husband and I (both ASMs) go on almost
every campout, and we can tell when one of us is fried from handling a
difficult boy/situation. So we developed this method of 'relaying' so
one of us can walk away before we explode.
