Hello Scouts-L listers...
I've been lurking here for a month or so now and finally am
getting around to introducing myself:
Paul Schnettler, newly appointed scoutmaster of troop 164 from
(a small town 17 mi. south of Madison WI.)
My scouting experiences started in the Northeast Illinois Council,
Skokie Valley District.
Pack and Troop 67 of Northbrook Ill.
I earned my AOL in 1966 (passing through the
Bobcat,Wolf,Bear,Lion, and Webelos ranks)
OA member since 1970, MaKaJaWan (wapiti) lodge 40- brotherhood
I earned my Eagle in 1973 (with 3 months left before turning 18)
I spent 6 yrs in the US Navy and remained an assistant SM with my
troop during that time, and I attended scout camp 2 times as an
ASM. (heck of a way to use my shore leave)
After leaving the military I enrolled in the Univ. of Wisconsin in
Electrical Engineering (which brought me to the Madison WI. area.)
I work for the Univ. of Wisconsin, Space Science & Engineering
Center involved in R&D relating to meterology and the space
Got married and started a family after college and didn't really
become re-involved in scouting until my oldest son got involved in
cubs. After the Tiger Cub year I became involved as a Den leader
and took my son's den all the way through 2nd yr. Webelos. When he
decided to continue with boy scouts I became a Committee member
(treasurer) and the next year became an assistant scoutmaster.
About the same time my 2nd son became involved in cubs and I also
signed on as Den leader and took his den through the ranks through
2nd yr. Webelos (what a long strange trip it's been...) while
remaining active as an ASM. Both my boys are now enrolled in
T-164. Dan's a life scout (15yrs.) and Tim's just finished working
on his 2nd class rank. (crossed over in Feb.)
I hope to attend woodbadge training ASAP, but also have my hands
full with a troop of 49 boys and plans to attend Philmont with a
group of 15 boys in Aug. of 1999. I have a great and supportive
committee helping me along with 5 ASM's. Life is good!
Hopefully I can give and get alot of good information here on
