Please forgive if this is a multiple posting. I posted it last night but
never received a confirmation from the listserver.
Perhaps you may have read about an accident on Interstate 40 near Hickory
in Western NC on Friday, 24, 1998, in which a 18 wheeler carrying a load of
gasoline crashed into a bridge and overturned, followed by a spectacular
explosion which melted the I-beams holding up the bridge, causing it to
collapse onto the interstate. The highway was closed until late afternoon
on the following Monday.
The driver did not escape the wreckage, and died on the scene. I found out
on Thursday (while the list was misbehaving) that the driver was Ricky Alan
Bean, Scoutmaster of Troop 258 (?) in Kings Creek, NC. He leaves a wife
and two children behind. Prayers and scouting wishes are solicited for the
