My orginal SCOUT model campaing hat, worn as part of the BSA service
team at the 1964 World Fair in NY, does NOT have a leather band. The
older scout catalogs USED to have 2 hats, one a cheaper version for
scouts, did not have the leather band. It had a cloth band, with the
FDL pattern repeated on the band.
I don't think it would really be required to purchase the extra
leather band. I believe is was the orginal intent for only leaders
to have the leather band
But I could be wrong again - I will ask my wife what she thinks ./ . .
