First, be sure the ground cloth is completely under the tent. Do not let
any edges hang out or they will act like a rain gutter, catching the water
running down the sides of the tent.
If you have a lot of rain, which it sounds as if you do, you can put a
plastic sheet/plastic tarp/ground cloth inside the tent. This should
protect the gear, provided the edges go up the sides of the tent a little.
