Our troop is also sponsored by a local church, store majority of the
gear in a small storage area in the building and had kept the trailer
parked beside the outside storage building. We have lost 2 trailers now
due to theft. Long before I was involved with the troop, we had gear in
the trailer preparing for a weekend campout and come departure day it
was gone. We started working on replacement of everything when 3 months
later the pastor brought us a check from the insurance company, it had
been covered by the churches policy. Became troop policy- never load
till ready to leave unload immediately upon return, trailer tags are
kept inside building with gear unless trailer is being used, trailer
door is kept padlocked at all times. Then 2 years ago, we were
preparing to go to summer camp- Monday trailer there boys cleaned it
out, Thursday night parents meeting we double checked tire pressure etc.
and all was fine, arrived Sunday morning to load gear and no trailer.
This time church says "not covered" sorry. We still do not have a
trailer. So don't count on "sponsor's insurance" to cover the troop
property, even if it does belong to them. We learned the hard way.
