The better camping equipment stores now have replacement fiberglass rod
kits with the metal sleeve already attached. You do need to know the size
of the rod. I got a kit from Gander Mountain for 3/8 rods, which worked
perfectly. You can cut down the rod with a hacksaw, going around the rod
with it carefully. The kit usually includes shock cord as well, in case
you need that too. I found I need also a 7/16 rod for another tent, so I
am off to get a kit for that. Check with either local or mail order
caming goods stores. The kits seem to be generic.
