Hey, I just got home from High Adventure Camp, and I can really say, "we are
real women now"!
We hiked 10 miles on the A.T., over 2 1/2 days, over the roughest terrain I
have every hiked, sweat pouring off of us, hot, humid and no showers. We
hiked straight uphill for 2 miles and the end, and I thought I was about to
die, all this and carrying a 27lb pack. My feet were killing me, no blisters
but the terrain was total rock and we had to pick our way up. I felt like a
100 year old billy goat, going 2 miles an hour. The girls were absolutely
wonderful. We camped by a spring that night and purified our own water, put
our feet and butts in it.
3rd day we went white water rafting and loved it. Out to dinner that night in
Harper's Ferry and toured the town. We crossed the train bridge and took
turns spitting into the river.
4th day we took a 4 hour trail ride along the tow path and had a great lunch,
5th day we started on our 2 day canoe hike down the Potomac from Pt of Rocks,
we floated, out of the canoes, for over an hour, down the river, loving it.
We played and swam, and topsized, hung on tree limbs, all while floating with
the current, past farms and cows, and islands. We slept in a cow pasture that
night, cooked over an open fire, layed on our blankies and watched the stars
In the morning we were awoken by the voices of a hundred cows, mooing in
curiosity for an hour. We were surrounded, then they left us, off to see
something else. We took our baths in the river and brushed our teeth, canoed
down to Whites Ferry and docked. All in all, we travelled 9 miles.
I trully enjoyed the company of all those 15, 12 year old girls, we bonded and
became very close. I will have fond memories forever and will cherish them.
This was really a memrable period in our lives. Our motto, "we are real
