Don't get the older heavier canvas models. Reread your posting, they are hot in
the summer, when they get wet they are heavy, "we had to religiously dry them
out every Monday after a campout". Technology has come a long way., there is no
reason to penalize the scouts.
We buy the Eureka Timberline 4- man tents with one door for about $140 through
Campmor. They are easy to set-up , waterproof, durable enough for scouts and
light enough that they can be used for backpacking. The comfortably will hold 3
scouts or 3 adults and can hold 4 in a pinch.
