Eagle Recommendation Letters

I have just finished my requirements for Eagle Scout, and I am not
working on my Eagle Scout Rank Application (the form). I am a bit confused
and would like some clarification on one of the points...
I have gotten conflicting information on the process of recommendation
letters. I heard from one person that I should talk to the people myself,
ask them to write a letter, and give them the council address so they can
send it in themselves. I heard elsewhere that I should get them to agree
to write a letter, then put their names and addresses on the form so that
council (or whoever) can send them the info they need to write it. I have
also heard that I should just put the names on the form without contacting
them at all (which doesn't make *any* sense to me).
Could some enlightened individual please set me straight as to what
the proper process actually is?
