The best all round tent for the money are the Timberlines by Eureka. They are
double wall nylon tents, with an aluminum frames. Even on backpacking trips,
the Timberline IV which weighs about 8+ pounds can be broken down so that 3-4
scouts can carry without excess weight. They also are pretty scout proof and
if set up correctly will keep your boys dry despite the weather. The
Timberline IVs sell for about 150 and the Timberline II sell for about $99.
Don't got down the path of canvas tents. You will keep them longer than you
planned and they definitely are not the quality of the Timberlines. I bet the
majority of the responses will say the same thing. Good luck!
