Hey, a question that I can answer as a professional without causing a
fuss. (I think!)
As a district executive, I get invitations to Eagle COH all of the time,
and I love it. It is a bragging right in our council for a DE to talk up
a Eagle COH.
The unfortunate fact is that I serve in a small council. Almost every
event we hold is a command performance for our staff (Mom-n-Me,
Dad-n-Lad, Expo, Scouting for Food, Training, etc.) These ceremonies
tend to either fall on these mandatory weekends, or the troops schedule
around them and end up having several ceremonies on the same day.
Unless I am to play a part in the ceremony, I try to bow out of the
picture so one troop does not feel slighted by my absence. It is a
difficult situation to be in, because you want to congratulate all of the
new Eagles, but unfortunately I am unable to be in two places at once.
The alternative, only having a few Eagle ceremonies a year, is by far and
away worse. I want every kid possible to EARN (not be given (I am not
pointing fingers or making accusations, just clarifying my position)) his
