Tom Kochansky made a good point about "adult patrols". There is, of course,
nothing wrong in such things unofficially. For example, in our group the
scouters are the "Boss Cocky" patrol, but this is not something we include
in the youth programme, but rather a name we give ourselves when we
occasionally (our goal is once a year, but we don't always manage even
that) get together as leaders alone for a camp or hike.
However, there is a place for a scouter to take a role with the youth
patrols, as explained during my Scout Leader woodbadge, and this is in the
Troop Council (PLC). We were told that the ideal model for troop council
was as a patrol with the Scouter taking the role of PL and the PLs forming
the patrol members. In this way the scouter SHOWS the PLs how he expects
them to fulfil their role in their own patrols.
