Tim Hewitt raised questions related to havinga SM or other qualified MB
counselors from another Council sign off on completions of partials. I see no
problem with that occurring so long as the person is qualified and registered
as a counselor in the other Council. Since out Troop, regularly, goes out of
Council for summer camp, many of our Scouts' summer MB activity is signed by
In addition, some of our Scouts go to private camps and secure MBs which may
not be offered at a Scout camp: Photograpy, Horsemanship; Woodworking; etc.
from the camp counselors who have been hired/qualified to teach those
activities for the camp. These arrangements are made before the fact with the
camp; MB Counselor forms are sent along, as are the MB books. Many of these
camps or counselors are acquanted with Scouting, and understand the role they
are to play - if not, or you are unsure, there is no reason why you cannot
explain your minimum performance standards as they relate to the requirements.
It works for us, our District, and Council.
We have one boy who is going off to a residential school next year, but wants
to continue in Scouting and maintain his relationship with our Troop. We will
try to do a similar thing which can tie-in with his academic schedule.
