In our troop, we use the "wring cycle" to get excess water out of the
clothes. They still need several hours to dry (less if the weather is
sunny), but most of our boys don't have the strength to do a good fast spin
In the past, we just stopped up the sink next to the latrine with a pair of
underpants and washed clothes in the sink, but I think the 5 gal bucket
idea is neat and, time permitting, am going to try it this year.
