Years ago, I belonged to a volunteer fire company in a small town. In order
to vote for the election of chief and other officers, you had to be an active
member. In order to be an active member, you had to make a certain number of
fire calls. The only exception was for "Life Members." To be a life member,
you had to have attended the most calls during a year or perform some act of
heroism and be nominated by the board of directors. All of that for
this: Sounds to me like your son ought to be a "life member" of his troop.
Instead of leaving, why not try to place the provision that once a Scout has
earned Eagle, he be exempt from the attendance rules?
