Every boy is special. I think troops over time tend to develop their
own personalities. Probably, the first couple of Scoutmasters set the
tone and the process of selecting leaders does the rest.
I led a troop of risk takers. They played hard but fair and pushed
every edge of the rules they thought I would tolerate. ;-)
It is true that I once free climbed a 30' rock wall two days before I
had carpal tunnel surgery -- I am about 50# over weight..... So I
guess I am a risk taker too. We were never the neatest parade troop,
but we had a very good time and generated a number of eagles.
We are who we are and we get the boys we get. The persona of the
troop comes from that. I really think it is that simple.
