Bravo, Anthony! Well said! How many times have I seen this "enhancement"?
Whether it's the Den Leader requiring a new Cub to recite the Bobcat
requirements repeatedly in front of his den until he is in tears or an DE
who "enhances" boys right out of the program they have one thing in common.
They have confused means and ends. The Advancement program is a means, not
an end. The uniform is a means, not an end. And when it comes right down
to it, adult involvment in this program is a means, not_an_end. The first
time you use the methods of Scouting as a weapon against a boy or to mold
him into your own personal idea of a Scout then you have failed as a leader.
And you have probably lost that boy. Again, Anthony, well done.
