Volunteers....any time you want to move to New Mexico.....you are more than
I am the Leader (an 01) of a Brownie troop and would welcome any and all
parent participation (and do when it is offered). My "Cookie Mom" is
actually "Cookie Grandpa Joe", the grandfather of one of my girls. He has
done a great job in helping my girls with their several thousand boxes of
cookies. The girls adore him. He is also the assistant going with me to
Troop camp this summer, why, because he asked if I needed someone to help
My council office didn't have any trouble with the fact that he was going.
He is a card carrying member of our troop. Because of safety issues he may
not be able to sleep in the unit we are in, and may have to sleep in the
bunk house with the cooking staff, but he is not there to sleep with the
girls, he's there to experience and assist with their camping trip.
Sleeping in the bunkhouse depends on how many men are there the weekend that
we go up and how crowded the weekend is. Our council does not allow males
and females to mix in a tent (not even at Father/Daughter camp), so it's
really going to depend on the numbers. But again, this is for the girl's
safety and HIS. And he understands and appreciates the concern for both the
girls and him.
As far as hanging out at the meeting to see how it's going....that's okay
with me....but if I need your assistance, watch out, because I will ask you
to help with something, if I need the help......I figure, if you've got the
time to hang out and watch, then you have the time to help at that meeting.
I don't care if your mom, dad, or big brother......seems to me a lot of
dad's don't think they can volunteer....ASK your leader.....many of us can
use the assistance with planning badge work or an outing....there are
several science and out of doors try-it's that I just don't have the back
ground for and would love for a parent to offer to assist or run that try-it
workshop. And next year I will probably be taking on some Juniors (who have
bridged from my troop) and I will definitely need all the help I can get
from all the parents that I can get to assist. And yes, Cookie Grandpa Joe
will be back.
Parental involvement is the key, whether they are male or female doesn't
