I think that you have your feathers ruffled a little too much-the important
thing is that he told anybody! Yea, he,(and his mom), did challenge your
authority, by not going to you first, but the boy with the 'marijuana' did, in
effect, break the law. Be glad that this boy wasn't like the other two boys
and keep it quiet. It took a lot of courage to call his mom, because kids
don't like to be snitches. The boy probably was too scared to tell someone he
didn't know well and didn't trust (after all, trust is something that cannot
be expected to be instantly acquired or earned). Talk to the boy and the mom,
tell them that while they did the right thing in notifying the police, you
would hope to have the courtesy of being notified first.
The important thing is that he told someone!!!
