Like others have said, I wear often in public, on way to meetings, grocery
store on way home, you name it. EVen wore it to the office once when I had
to run by and solve a problem before I could go to a campout.
Best story was in New Mexico. Delivered my son to Philmont for summer
staff position. I took my uniform and wore it at the ranch, stayed
overnight, had an early breakfast and headed east towards Kansas. About 10
miles east of Springer, a radiator hose blew out. I parked the van on the
shoulder, pulled my uniform shirt on, walked across the road and put out
my thumb. First car was an elderly lady who said she would never stop to
pick up a hitchhiker - normally. She could tell that with the hoodup I had
car trouble, and with the Scout uniform that I would not be any trouble.
She dropped me at a dealership in Springer. I bought a hose and antifreeze
and a man getting his car fixed there drove me back out to my car. I lost
maybe an hour and a half. That Scout uniform saved me a long walk in dry
country. Wear it in public? You betcha!
