I wouldn't fret too much about their comments
although I will say a guy thing
"LINDA THEY GOT YOUR NUMBER!!"
I still get these types of comments and even worst
ones from my much older children. In addition I am =
reminded that when I was younger (teens-20-30's etc)
I would have jumped hard at the opportunity to be =
contrary and argue even when I totally agreed. Hey!!
I used to foolishly believe a Good Argument tests =
your brains, information, and beliefs and never =
should make anyone mad enough to want to spit.
>Most Teen Scouts are a little young and far too =
worldly to discuss this in the manner you have =
asked or for most scout adults to hear speeches. =
These guys are Teen Males no longer bright eyed =
3 to 5 year olds.
>This speech really belongs in a Religious Group
rather than a Scout Troop so appropriate movements
can be made on areas needing guidance.
>Prior to continuing with this endeavor think about =
having a discussion with the Scouts about BSA and =
the God requirement. Focus on how at Star, Life, =
and definetly at Eagle that you and the Board want =
to have a good feeling about the God part of their =
life training even though it is beyond BSA's DETAIL
review. Read BSA's literature so you know how to =
Dance this issue like a great Ballerina.
>FOR ME ONLY, If The Scout who says he doesn't believe
in God is Star or below and wishes to speak I would =
personally encourage him, first checking with my =
fellow scout adults so he won't get side-swipped by =
them in the future.
He is preparing for this type of speech and speaking =
with others would be enlightening and serve as an =
opportunity to have the boys do more research =
on this topic possibly via some In-Congregation =
field work. I might invite his In-Congregation =
Leader so he/she knows another theologian is alive
or that 2900 year old Job has a new vocal decendent.
>Stay away from this one.
>When boys are much younger often their Mom =
is their wife of choice. =
Ah!! so rewarding for the Mom.
>Most teen boys will want to use great imagination =
and many Hollywood images to cast their future wife
as the perfect companion. These images will be more =
than most adults, particularly scout female adults =
can in general tolerate.
>For the other boy he probably likes Wesley Snipes
or Patrick Swazey and those other Hollywood people
so is a bit confused as to the difference between
Hollywood images and Reality.
I recommend picking other issues to get you out
of this dill pickle i.e. the G1 G2 and G3.
How about the Weather, Michigan's Wrestling
Fishing in that Lake, or about Gerald Ford??
YiS, IMHO, and may we each attempt to live the SO,SL,SS,SM
