Re: Ideas needed to recruit Pack leadership

I personally think this is the biggest pain in the butt in all of Scouting.
First - get together with the concerned adults - den leaders, their wives,
active adults (if any) and THEIR wives/hubbies and have a
party/picnic/get-together without any kids...have fun! We often forget that
the adults are supposed to enjoy themselves as well. I had a kick-off party,
Christmas holiday party and a summer picnic. You end up becoming friends,
amazingly enough :) The committee meetings were at my house with popcorn,
um, beverages, and no kids. And my first committee chair? Was one of my den
leader's wives, who allowed me to write her name on the charter with no
activities on her part assumed. I chaired the committee meetings myself for
about a year. *sigh*
Show the adults how much fun YOU'RE having (at least don't show them how
frantic you are without their help). Volunteer some of them without their
permission for some easy job...that's hard, but it DOES work. Den leaders?
That's a fear thing...how much time, what decisions do they make, where to
hold the meetings, etc. Volunteer to help with early den meetings...it's
easy to get out of them later. Heh...and the nastiest, most rotten thing you
can do? Heh...volunteer them for skits - make them participate in something.
There ain't no easy way to get them in short-term...but by the end of my
second year, my committee meetings were around 10 people at a time, I had an
official committee chair instead of doing them myself, and my life suddenly
Good luck :)
