Re: Patrol Flag Ideas

Because of our tenting needs we just bought two new big dome tents, primo
tents. But who should get to use them? I'm going to try a patrol competition at
this weekend's campout where they get points for best flag, yell, who can put
up a flag pole the fastest, and if they can (without talking) organize an
effort to move a dangerous (OK its just water) material without toaching it (we
did this on Woodbadge). But the truth is only one patrol currently has a flag
so I hope they'll all get the idea on how to do this. I found the following
link which is really good, and the SM Rodney Hughes was nice enough to mail me
a better copy of these which I'm going to give to the patrols for inspiration.
I only wish I could find the book this page came out of since it seems so well
done. Mr. Hughes says he ordered it about 1992 out of Boys Life.

use the tents at the next campout when there'll be another round. My goal is to
put a little stress on the patrol so that they come to realize things about
team work such as a patrol leader is not another name for phone caller, but may
actually help (or hinder) them reaching their goals (primo tents). I'll have to
see how well this works over the next six months but I'm already detecting a
ripple of interest not unlike that Woodbadge patrol rivalry.
