First of all, like the joke about the three umpires, they qualify if and
only if you say they qualify. (It's a strike if I say its a strike.)
To say otherwise is to invalidate three decades of LDS OA camping
wherein LDS campers only had 5 nights of camping at summer camp because
they do not camp on Saturday or Sunday night. This was the basis for
the rules change last year that long term camping means 6 DAYS and 5
In my opinion, they do qualify.
They have done their long term camping, obviously. Pick a week, any
But, they have also camped out on every Friday night during the summer.
There are at least 10 weeks that qualify. Boom, you have 10 short term
That, in my mind, represents sufficient camping nights to qualify. In
my opinion, it is irrelevant what they did the rest of the week. To say
that it doesn't count because they were camping the whole week I think
kind of misses the whole point of a brotherhood of honor campers.
Also, your note about 6/7 days indicates that they are 2/3 days short of
qualify on their own merit. So, under consideration is whether or not
months of service to summer camp for two years makes up for the
inability to attend a sufficient number of weekend campouts.
My vote: Put them on the ballot and let the boys decide.
